Barbara Griffith_edited.jpg

Barbara Griffith was raised a casual Protestant in upstate NY near Binghamton, within view of the Susquehanna River. She came to Colorado in 1977 and married a geologist, and they both joined the LDS church (Mormon) in 1978 and just before her divorce she left this church in 1990 for a host of reasons. She went back to being Protestant (Lutheran). She is currently a third generation IT professional, with a master's degree from Regis University in Computer Information Technology. She now alternates most of her time between keeping her IT skills up to date and visiting her 5 grandchildren.

Over the past several years she has sought to keep herself well-informed about the LDS church. She has also often made herself available for those with questions about Mormonism.

Wendy Duncan LBSW, is a licensed social worker and graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned a master's degree in religious education. A former member of a Bible-based pseudo-Christian cult, she documented her experience and recovery journey in her memoir, I Can't Hear God Anymore: Life in a Dallas Cult.

Following their departure from the group, Wendy and her husband, Doug, devoted themselves to understanding the impact of cultic involvement and spiritual abuse. Their personal journey evolved into a ministry focused on supporting individuals and families affected by high-control groups, religious trauma, and spiritual abuse.

In recognition of their contributions to the field of cult recovery, Wendy and Doug were honored in 2025 with the Margaret Thaler Singer Award by the International Cultic Studies Association. Wendy's work is particularly centered on helping "wounded sheep"—individuals whose experiences of spiritual abuse have damaged their faith, trust, and relationship with God.

The Wounded Sheep program is endorsed by St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral, where Wendy and Doug are active members. In addition to her memoir, Wendy contributed a chapter on restoring one's relationship with God after spiritual abuse to the book Wounded Faith.

Through her coaching, writing, speaking, and ministry work, Wendy is dedicated to helping survivors of cultic and spiritual abuse find healing, reclaim their autonomy, and rebuild healthy, life-affirming faith. For more information regarding Wendy, her website is here.
